Professional problems modern Russia

It is actual fact, that humanist professions are very lucrative nowadays. Since childhood a lot of people believe such work to be very interesting. With such an point of view they are educated in their families, go to high school, to a institute and at last they begin bringing up their own children that way. Impasse.
Why is it so? What do make people think that engineering sciences have lost their significance?
There are several motives.
First of all present technology achieved such a high degree of development that society is capable of running it without having specialized technical knowledge. Consequently there is no necessity for subsequent spreading of technical education. Humanits use begins prevailing in all fields of life.
Secondly it is an actual fact that we exist in the consumer society. People in it don’t want to work with their hands. They like to describe everything and consume products, but not to make something by themselves. Naturally this fact does not influence positively on dissemination of engineering education. People are simply not interested in it.
In the third place is the fact that the resource base has got such a extent of devastation that we frequently have no place for work after studying the theory.
at last a very major thing is the policy of the government. What professions does it promote as needed today? We can easily get to know it by watching our mass-media. The internet, the television, the radio, the press – what professions do they popularize today? It is easy to prove that they are full of non-technical images. Mass-media show us pleasant, nice way of life in which there is no place for hard-work, but there are a lot of talks, beautiful scenes and fantasies.
What do we have as a after all?
Lack of expert workers in the technological sphere. There are a lot of philosophers, lawyers, artists, singers, politicians, professors but a few people, able to operate for example a huge jointer planer. This will cause a difficult situation when we will be needing very simple things which are very important for our comfortable way of living.
Besides that our education system is totally ruined. There is no technical literature of high quality – it is either sold or lost. There is no qualified lecturers able to educate adequate personnel working in technical spheres.
Such is the picture. Sad, isn’t it?
Then, there is an adequate question: what should our society do in order to improve the condition? It seems to me that there are several actions to be taken. firstly our education system should change its attitude towards technical professions and specialities and theirs future. Then our country should do its best in order to promote engineering specialities in mass-media.
And of course, the best way to preserve engineering professions is to assign enough means both for the payment for the people who work in this sphere and to the creating an adequate resource base.
